Crime Brief   -   26th November 2009

Herewith details regarding some of the reported incidents in the Honeydew Precinct during the past week:

Business Robberies:

The complainant was busy helping a client who wanted to buy some airtime at a business in Ruimsig.
While still busy assisting this “client” the “client” suddenly produced a firearm and demanded money.  The
“client” then jumped over the counter and held up staff members demanding they hand over money from
the tills.  The suspect took the money and took cell phones and personal property from the staff and fled
the scene on foot.

The complainant was inside the business, in North Riding, when he noticed a blue Camry stopping in front
of the shop.  The complainant walked towards the front of the shop and then saw approximately five
suspects entering the shop.  The suspects pointed the complainant and employees with firearms and
instructed them to lie down on the floor.  The suspects took personal property from the complainant and
employees, laptops, handbags, jewellery and cash and fled the scene in the blue Camry.

House Robberies:

The complainant was sleeping at his residence at a Town House in Honeydew Ridge when he felt
someone touching him.  He then noticed two unknown armed suspects next to him. They ordered him and
his wife to lie face down on their bed.  The suspects then tied up the complainant and his wife and brought
their children to their bedroom.  The suspects continued ransacking the house and took TV’s, laptops,
electrical equipment and a firearm from the complainant and fled the scene.

On Friday evening at about 20:00 the complainant was in the bathroom, at her home in Cosmo City, when
she heard someone knocking at the front door.  The eight year old child opened the door and three armed
suspects stormed into the house.  They ordered the complainant and the two children 8 and 2 to remain in
one room and they ransacked the house.  The suspects loaded the “loot” into an unknown vehicle. They
took a microwave, kettle, DVD player, clothes etc. and fled the scene.  Nobody was injured and no shot
fired.

Street Robberies:

Street Robberies are again showing an increase and the community is asked to please be very careful
when walking to and from home:
• Be aware of your surroundings
• Never overload yourself with parcels – it makes you a target
• Do not carry large sums of money
• If you are out at night, stick to well lit areas.  Also try and walk in groups
• Carry your cell phone and wallet out of sight and in an inside front pocket.

At about 14:15 the complainant was on the way from the Taxi Stop at the corner of Hendrik Potgieter and
Peter Road in Ruimsig.   Suddenly two unknown males with a firearm approached the complainant from
behind and pointed the firearm at her. The other suspect was armed with a knife.  The one suspect
searched the complainant and the other suspect took her cell phone and wallet. The suspects then fled the
scene on foot.

On Friday evening at about 20:10 the complainant was walking down Beyers Naude Drive returning from
work when he was approached by two suspects, one armed with a firearm.  The suspects demanded
money and the complainant’s cell phone. The complainant refused to hand over his cell phone and the
suspects then grabbed him searched him and forcefully took his cell phone and wallet.

A complainant was robbed of his cell phone at gunpoint by an unknown male with a firearm while walking
down Randpark Drive at about 11:16. After the robbery the suspect fled the scene on foot.
